Caird Library in Sammy Ofer Wing

The Museum's Caird Library is a comprehensive maritime reference library and a rich research resource for all. Material includes manuscripts, books, charts and maps dating back to the 15th century and comprising the most extensive maritime archive in the world. In addition to rare books and prints and drawings, the Caird Library holds an extensive collection of journal titles that include historical as well as current maritime and naval history content.
The library also holds large collections of Masters Certificates and Crew Lists.

The Library is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10.00-16.45
On Saturday, the Library is closed between 13.00-14.00

The National Maritime Museum's collection of manuscripts is the largest and most important dedicated archive for the study of maritime history in the world. The collection occupies over four linear miles of shelf space and covers all aspects of British seafaring history from the 14th to the 20th centuries.
